Practical Information


The first part of the Summer School (Monday 13 to Wednesday 15 June)  will take place in  ATHENA Research Centre, situated at Maroussi. Address: Artemidos 6 & Epidavrou, Maroussi, Greece.

The second part of the Summer School (the Expert Forum, Thursday 16 to Friday 17 June) will take place in the buidling of the Hellenic section of ICOM (the International Council of Museums), 15 Assomaton str., Athens, 100 metres from the Thesseion metro station (line 1). situated at the center of Athens.

The map bellow shows the location of both venues as well as some recommended hotels.


As Athens is a popular destination during summer, accommodation availability is scarce. Please make sure that you book your accommodation as early as possible.

Reaching the city centre from the Airport:


The Airport is accessible via Metro Line 3 (blue line). Airport single ticket price: 8 €. There is also accessibility for Disabled Passengers. You can find a metro map here.


Airport Service from the Athens Urban Transport Organization. Take the X95 Athens Airport Express – Syntagma bus line from the Airport (average travelling time 70′).


The airport is accessible by taxi on a 24-hour basis. Passengers reaching the Airport disembark at the Departures level, where they can proceed directly to the check-in counters. When leaving the airport, please make use of the taxi queue next to Door 3 of the Arrivals Level. Pre-booked taxis are provided upon request and make use of the inner curb of the Arrivals Level as a staging area.

Reaching ATHENA R.C. from the city center

ATHENA R.C. is situated at Maroussi, a suburb in the north of Athens. It is accessible via metro- suburban rail and bus:

Take the metro line 3 (blue line) from the city center towards the airport. Change at Doukissis Plakentias Station and take the Suburban Railway towards Kiato. Step out at Kifisias Station. Kifisias station is 10 minutes away, on foot, from ATHENA R.C. The map below shows the walking trajectory from Kifisias Station to ATHENA R.C.:



From the center of Athens you can use two bus lines to reach ATHENA R.C.: Bus n. 550 and bus n. E14.

Bus n.550 is accessible from Kifisias avenue and bus n. E14 is accessible from Syntagma square and Kifisias avenue. You can board either bus service from outside the Megaron Moussikis metro station (two stops from Syntagma Square). It takes about 30-45 minutes to get to the Athena R.C. offices by bus,. depending on traffic. .

Some more information about the Athens Metro

The Athens Metro network has three lines: Line 1 (ISAP or Μ1), and Lines 2 and 3 (Μ2 and Μ3).

Green line-ISAP: Piraeus – Kifissia
Line 1 – ISAP (Μ1) is a key link between the port of Piraeus and the northern suburbs of Athens via the city centre. The station at Maroussi (Neratziotissa) is an interchange station between the Metro (ISAP or M1), the Suburban Railway (Proastiakos) and the Attiki Odos motorway.

Red line: Anthoupoli – Elliniko
Metro Line 2 connects western and southern Athens. The latest additions to the metro system are Anthoupoli station, serving the western suburbs, and Elliniko station, serving the southern suburbs.

Blue line: Egaleo – International Airport
Metro Line 3 connects the city centre with the northern suburbs (Halandri and Doukissis Plakentias stations) and with the International Airport.
